Too Much Education is Catastrophic

Your nursery school teacher preached something into your ear and it got into your head. You moved into junior, middle and senior level and the message is now clear. You are a woman. Fight for your rights!! You are made to believe that you must wage war against men; at home and at school. As if all men are coming after something so precious that you possess.

Everybody is too eager to praise the girl. When a boy achieves something good, all he gets is: "WHATEVER!!!” Newspapers, television, all are splashed with news about the girl child. Philanthropic individuals are moved to Sponsor girls’ NOT boys’. Someone has to pay fees, buy girls pads, and under garments. A boy has to do with one, till it’s tattered and infested with bugs. Everybody is taking care of the girl- Boys are on their own.
Now you study so hard that you qualify for University. When you arrive there, it suddenly downs on you that three quarters of your class are girls. Suddenly boys are scarce. Then you think that boys are dim-wits. That’s why they didn’t make it to University. You start to disrespect them.

You meet this elderly man. He looks like a man of means. You fall for the big car, fat wallet, and the protruding stomach. He whispers to you how much he loves you. How big your wedding will be. You are chauffeured into the tuition area countless times. You now own an apartment which you don’t pay for. It’s well furnished. Your wardrobe hosts some of the latest fashion. You own an expensive phone, a tablet, and numerous pairs of shoes. You post on your Instagram photos of your dinner at Hotel Kempinsky and your vacations at Dubai.

You then get yourself pregnant. And your guy…sorry…old man…sorry…sponsor…I don’t even know….claims that you have a boyfriend at the Campus.
“How could you? We were careful!”
He even volunteers that he has a wife and three kids.
One day you go back to your crib and find a gaping hole. At least he left behind your clothes, you console yourself.

“Your boyfriend came for things and claimed you were moving houses”, you are told by your neighbor.
“You mean you didn’t know?” she scoffs.

You leave in a hurry as a crowd starts to form. That night, you put up at a friend’s place.

Suddenly your account runs dry. His phone is off. Your number is blocked. The “fool” went ahead to block you in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, email…you name it!

You try the address he gave you. You find an elderly couple that doesn’t even know what you are talking about:
“What was that name again? ....Thompson? We don’t know anybody by that name. We have lived here all our lives”.

Then it starts to settle. Your dream is over. Suddenly you are so much awake. You have been duped. You sit down. You stand. You feel dizzy. Confused. You contemplate a number of things; Abortion? Suicide? (To be continued)
